A grant from Charlotte Community Foundation is helping kids enrolled in a Boys and Girls Club after school program extend their foray into music at Port Charlotte Middle School. The grant, provided to the Charlotte Local Education Foundation, supported the cost of new guitars and lessons by local teacher Mark Fitzpatrick, author of “Two Hands,” an instruction book for both left and right-handed players.
According to the Club, “the summer continuation was a perfect articulation between elementary and middle grades. Now, students are taking more lessons all free through the schools and because of the Community Foundation.”
Thanks to the lessons, a fifth-grader named Romeo learned guitar basics and how to read music during the summer session and is looking forward to continuing his classes in middle school.
