The Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center provides more than 20 educational programs and manages eight areas of environmentally sensitive lands that include hiking trails and recreational opportunities for the community. But what happens when you can’t hear your tour guide?
A recent grant from Charlotte Community Foundation for media equipment like sound systems and projectors is helping CHEC teach the public about Charlotte Harbor’s environment. A new wide screen television, a new sound system and media projector and two portable public address systems are already helping CHEC staff and volunteers provide significantly improved programs thanks to their ability to communicate with their audiences. “The media system installed in the Caniff Visitor Center generated a significant increase in participation for our nature video program — participation increased 290 percent from the previous year,” CHEC staff report.
