Hand-Up Grant Program Guidelines

As a facilitator of philanthropy, the Charlotte Community Foundation (CCF) places a top priority on enhancing the quality of life in Charlotte County. The Hand-Up Grant Program will allow a nonprofit to apply for immediate and urgent financial assistance on behalf of a client that has exhausted all other possibilities for aid. The maximum grant amount per individual/family is $1,500.

Hand-Up Grant Priorities

The Charlotte Community Foundation will award individual grants to non-profits for a one-time expense for a designated client.  Funds will be made available to address the most urgent client needs at a critical time.  Grants are limited and will be given priority based on the following factors:

  • Immediate, urgent need
  • Ability to resolve the issue in the most effective and cost efficient way
  • One-time expense
  • Positive outcome is nearly certain
  • Exhaustion of all other options

Nonprofit Eligibility Criteria

In addition to the immediate need, the Foundation will review each grant request based on evidence that the nonprofit organization has:

  • 501(c)(3) status in Charlotte County for at least two years
  • A Board of Directors composed of individuals of diverse backgrounds, at least half of whom reside in Charlotte County
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility
  • Filed prior year IRS Form 990
  • Benefited Charlotte County residents

Client Eligibility Criteria

In addition to an urgent and immediate need, the client should demonstrate the following client eligibility criteria:

  • Is employed or employable
  • Qualifies for government programs
  • Is a full time Charlotte County resident
  • Has not received a grant from CCF within the prior three year period

Required Documents

  • Organization’s IRS 501(c)3 Determination Letter
  • Board of Directors Listing
  • Organizational By-Laws
  • Proposal or invoice for expense
  • Copy of client paystubs
  • If on government assistance, copy of proof
  • Copy of proof of residence in Charlotte County
